Joanna Newsom – Colleen

Generally speaking, Joanna Newsom writes lovesongs. More vaguely, her stories are those of open window breezes in a thin silk nightgown, chilly under the bed covers. And most importantly, no one tells a better story. Though the music is nearly genius every time, she is first & foremost a lyricist, packing every track with images, thoughts, tales on tales. “Colleen” is perhaps her best first-person narrative, it’s up there on the list of all-timers without a dirigible doubt. The peak, the tourniquet: “I don’t know any goddamn Colleen.”
